Query Statistics with SQL Expression

Description

This sample demonstrates how to query for summary statistics from a hosted feature service with a SQL expression. Statistics such as min/max values, average, sum, count, and standard deviation can be generated from a field in any service. SQL expressions, however, are only supported in query for statistics operations on feature services where advancedQueryCapabilities.supportsSqlExpression is true.

The service in this samples contains features representing U.S. census block groups in the Seattle, WA area. Two fields are used in the query expression: one that contains the total population within each block group (TOTPOP_CY) and the other contains the area of each block group in square meters (ALAND). If you want to summarize the population density in people per square mile for a particular area, you can build an expression to use existing data rather than calculate the population density in a new field within the service. Since we want to see the population density in people per square mile, we'll use the following expression which divides the total population by the area converted to square miles:

TOTPOP_CY / (ALAND * 0.0000003861)

    * The sqlExpression is a standard SQL expression that will be used to
    * query the service for statistics. Since the ALAND field represents the
    * land area in square meters, we want to convert the units to square
    * miles. Therefore `(ALAND * 0.0000003861)` will return the area in square
    * miles. Dividing the TOTPOP_CY by that expression will return the
    * population per square mile.
    *
    * This expression is then set on the onStatisticField property of each
    * statistic definition object. Since we don't have a field for population
    * density in people per square mile, we can use this simple SQL expression
    * in the place of a field and we'll get our desired result:
    *
    * "TOTPOP_CY / (ALAND * 0.0000003861)"
    *
    *******************************************************************/
